VEC Civil Engineering Pty Ltd began operation as a bridge construction company in 1994, under the banner of Van Ek Contracting Pty Ltd.
The company was founded by Kees and Pam van Ek who, from the very beginning, were committed to providing clients with innovation and excellence. With determination, hard work and the support of just a few dedicated employees during the early years, the business quickly grew from a small, unknown entity to being recognised as the major bridge contractor in Tasmania. VEC is now governed by a Board of Directors.
Road and rail works were subsequently added to VEC's capabilities and these divisions operate from Breadalbane, near Launceston. Water infrastructure is a more recent addition to the company's capabilities.

VEC's success is based on teams of dedicated people whose collective expertise and extensive experience ensure that the business is cohesive, highly rated and commands respect within the civil contracting industry. The company now undertakes a diverse range of projects around Australia and overseas.
Corporate social responsibility is high on VEC's agenda, with ongoing support provided to the local and wider community through the Community Partnership Program (CPP). This program is driven by applications from employees to support charities, events and youth activities. It is extremely successful in distributing funds across the communities in which the business is based, as well as those in which various projects are undertaken.
