Project Manager 

(Queensland)

VEC Civil Engineering Pty Ltd (VEC) delivers projects nationally specialising in bridges, rail, civil and water infrastructure and steel fabrication.

We have expanded our capabilities to include Structural Remediation and are seeking an experienced Project Manager  to join our team.

The position

  • It is a full-time, Queensland based position, working in Brisbane with travel to all parts of Queensland including Central Queensland
  • The successful candidate will be prepared to work away from Brisbane for specific project needs as required.
  • The successful applicant will be responsible for the planning, coordination and management of VEC civil infrastructure projects.
  • Responsibilities will include driving the construction program while reporting on project progress and financial performance.

Essential Criteria

  • Civil Engineering Degree
  • 5 to 10 years professional industry experience and a practical approach
  • Experience in managing small to medium size projects, and delivering them to the highest safety standards
  • Excellent organisation, time management and leadership skills
  • Excellent people skills
  • Adept at managing client relationships
  • Strong cost control techniques
  • The ability to work flexible hours and visit geographically diverse sites

 

Desirable Attributes/Skills

  • RPEQ accreditation highly regarded.
  • Experience within the disciplines of Rail, Civil and Structures
  • QR experience preferable, other rail authority work would be advantageou
  • A current Rail Industry Worker Card will be required (but can be obtained if not held
  • An innovative, motivated ‘thinker’ with personal drive and commitment
  • Tendering and estimating experience in the civil engineering industry
  • Strong local knowledge of the industry
  • Knowledge of current project methodologies, including risk management, project evaluation, cost analysis and HSEQ

Civil Supervisor

(Tasmania)

VEC Civil Engineering Pty Ltd (VEC) delivers projects nationally specialising in bridges, rail, civil and water infrastructure and steel fabrication.

Tasmanian based, the successful applicant will be responsible for assisting the Project Manager in the coordination, supervision and site management of VEC Civil projects.

 

Essential Criteria:

  • 7+ years’ experience in the civil construction industry
  • Demonstrated leadership with the ability to lead a team and manage contractor
  • The ability to coordinate on site daily programming
  • Implement Traffic Management competency and working knowledge of AS1742.
  • The ability to work flexible hours in diverse locations across Tasmania and potentially inter-state;
  • A proven health, safety and environmental commitment

Desirable Attributes/Skills:

  • Ability to interact with relevant stakeholders, i.e. coordinate subcontractors
  • Plant Operator competencies would be an advantage
  • Cert III or IV in Civil Construction
  • The ability to problem solve and think innovatively
  • An attractive salary package will be negotiated commensurate with the successful applicant’s level of qualification and experience. Relocation to Tasmania will also be considered.

Project Engineer

(Tasmania)

VEC Civil Engineering Pty Ltd (VEC) delivers projects nationally specialising in bridges, rail, civil and water infrastructure and steel fabrication.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the effective planning, coordination and management of VEC civil infrastructure projects, in accordance with set timeframes, cost, quality, safety and environmental objectives though all phases of the project.

The position is full time, and candidates are expected to be based in North West Tasmania or Hobart.  

Essential Criteria:

  • Previous and relevant industry experience (5+ years)
  • Relevant engineering degree
  • Proven ability to manage civil engineering projects (on time, within budget and to quality/safety standards)
  • Excellent written and communication skills and an ability to liaise at all levels
  • Demonstrated leadership with the ability to lead a team
  • Effective judgement and decision making skills
  • Willing to work flexible hours in diverse locations across Tasmania and potentially interstate

Desirable Attributes/Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of PMBOK
  • Experience in tendering and estimating would be advantageous
  • The ability to problem solve and think innovatively
  • Sound knowledge of current project methodologies, including risk management, project evaluation, cost measurement and analysis
  • Contract Management experience

Expressions of Interest

Information Technology Officer

We are interested to ascertain if there are experienced IT professionals looking for casual employment opportunities in Tasmania with an innovative Company.

The Essentials:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience within an Information Technology role;
  • Level four or higher certificate in computing/IT operations;
  • The ability to provide professional and customer focused desktop and systems support in a mixed platform environment with particular focus on PC hardware and software
    support; and
  • Comprehensive experience with windows desktop and server platforms and related technology.

Responsibilities shall include supporting the IT Manager by providing front-line Information Technology support, including troubleshooting and hardware and software maintenance for all VEC staff and business units.

  • Contract Administration/management experience; and
  • The Project Engineer will assist the PM in ensuring effective management of designated projects, in accordance with set timeframes, cost, quality, safety and environmental objectives through all phases of the project.

Recruitment Process

Interview

Applicants shortlisted for interview are asked to respond to a number of set questions by a panel of two or three managers /or senior personnel. More than one interview may be required to complete this process.

Work History and Qualification Check

Qualifications and references will be checked for applicants being considered for any position.

Selection

Successful candidates will be advised of our intent to engage, subject to satisfactory screening.

Screening

National Police Check

Successful candidates may be required to participate in a national police check undertaken by an authorised organisation. This is dependent on the role and requirments of the position.

Medical Assessment

Successful candidates must satisfactorily complete a medical assessment (including drug and alcohol testing) undertaken by a VEC-approved pre-employment health assessment provider or medical practitioner.

There are no exceptions to these requirements.

Appointment

Subject to meeting all the above criteria, successful applicants will be provided with a Letter of Offer and/or Terms and Conditions of Employment. A minimum three month probationary period applies to all appointments.

Work Experience

VEC provides opportunities for work experience for high school and tertiary students throughout our operations.
The experience provides students with the opportunity to develop personally and professionally in a diverse work environment. Areas include project management, engineering, office administration, carpentry, boilermaker/welding and general labouring.
Expressions of interest for short-term placements are welcome from students interested in an area relevant to the company’s civil engineering business.
