PROJECTS
LEVEN RIVER BRIDGE
LOCATION: Ulverstone, Tasmania
STATUS: Completed
The Leven River Bridge project was the duplication of an existing structure to provide a curved two-lane, six-span bridge some165 metres long and 11 metres wide.
The new bridge complements the existing structure in both pier location and aesthetics.
It comprises steel tube piled foundations up to 22 metres in depth, precast concrete pile caps, concrete blade piers, five 1200 deep prestressed super T-beams per span, concrete deck, precast kerbs with concrete infill and a steel two rail barrier.
The bridge was built across a river with varying geotechnical conditions and challenges that required constant revision of pile capacity assessment methodology. All piers were constructed in the river, in water varying from two to eight metres in depth, plus a daily tidal range up to four metres.
The new structure now forms part of the four-lane highway between Devonport and Burnie.
