Banut piling rig

VEC ventured into pile driving in 1996 when it realised that equipment available at the time was either too slow or too expensive to operate.

With an appreciation and understanding of the geographic challenges and specialised requirements, it was decided to design a pile driver that would be economical, fast, efficient and suited to the Tasmania environment.

The result was a pile driving attachment fitted to a 320 Caterpillar excavator, which was so successful that AusIndustry offered assistance to develop a new machine suitable for the world market.

VEC now runs a Volvo 30tonne excavator mounted piling rig with a hydraulic hammer of variable weight ranging from two to four tonne. This has proven to be invaluable equipment on numerous projects around Australia as its versatility also allows it to be easily converted to a crane or excavator as required.

In addition to the excavator mounted pile rig, VEC also owns and operates a Banut (pictured) hydraulic piling rig with a 6 tonne hammer. This machine is of the more traditional type and it suited to production piling on building sites and for driving larger capacity piles in other projects.

Both machines are capable of driving timber, steel and concrete piles up to 12 metres, while the Banut is also able to drive steel tube piles up to 610 diameter. In all cases pile splices can be used to enable the driving of longer piles where required.

Pile design, including pile splices, is offered and pile capacity testing through the use of PDA can be arranged.
