With over 20 years of experience, VEC has designed, constructed and rehabilitated many structures across Australia. By using the search function, you can search for projects under each category and/or location. Alternatively, chose the specific capability or location that you are searching to see a list of associated projects.
Project Profiles are available to download. These sheets will provide additional information in relation to the project selected.

The Macquarie Island Modernisation Project

The Australian Government, through the Department of Environment and Energy’s Australian Antarctic Division, own and operate the research station on Macquarie Island, in a cooperative arrangement with the Tasmanian Government. For more information, visit: https://modernisationproject.com.au/

The Perth Link Roads Project

The Perth Link Roads Project is designed to improve safety and efficiency by removing heavy vehicles from the centre of Perth as they travel to and from the northern and north-western ports. For more information, visit: https://tasperthlink.com.au/

While VEC strive for perfection, it is inevitable that challenges will occur on some projects. Our reputation for superior capability comes from our success in overcoming any challenges through innovative design, clever engineering and practical thinking.

Queensland (18)

The Alice River Rail Bridge was replaced within just 6 days. Utilising precast headstocks and the innovative Direct Fix for the rail-lines, VEC and the crew of just 8 were able to complete the project within the limited closure. This project is part of the 22 Timber Bridge Replacement, Designed and Constructed by VEC for Queensland Rail.

Bridges & Structures Piling & Foundations Plant & Equipment Precast Concrete Rail Infrastructure

As part of Queensland Rail's quest to replace numerous timber rail bridges on the North Coast Line between Brisbane and Townsville, Cabbage Tree Creek near Lowmead and Redbank Road Bridge near Tiaro were to be replaced with concrete rail bridges.

Bridges & Structures Piling & Foundations Precast Concrete

The long low lying Capella Creek Rail Bridge was replaced by a pre-cast concrete structure. It was part of the 22 Timber Bridge Replacement Program, Designed and Constructed by VEC for Queensland Rail.

Bridges & Structures Piling & Foundations Precast Concrete Rail Infrastructure

After having completed numerous projects for Local Tasmanian Governments and having branched our business into Queenlsand, we are proud to have completed our first structures for the Banana Shire Council in the Capricorn region of Queensland.

The 22 Timber Bridge replacements are a prime example of how the VEC team are able to complete the replacement of a timber bridge with a precast bridge in the limited closure time of just 48 hours. By awarding all 22 bridges in 1 contract allowed for a design that was similar for the majority of the project - creating efficiencies for the client.

VEC’s team understands the requirements of achieving the hour by hour program targets to enable a project to keep on program, in particular during track closures..

The Isaac Regional Council engaged VEC to construct a newly designed bridge to replace the existing low lying bridge which is over-topped often each year. Just in 2017 alone Cherwell Creek flooded and the road was blocked for approximately 2 days from the deluge following Tropical Cyclone Debbie.

Bridges & Structures Piling & Foundations Precast Concrete

This project for Queensland Rail entailed the Design and Construction for the replacement of 6 existing concrete culverts on the rail line between Colton and Benaraby, in limited closure timeframes and under electrified line.

To commemorate 150 years of rail in Queensland, Queensland Rail’s heritage steam train – fondly known as “Bety” – travelled from Brisbane to Longreach from the 10th - 17th of April 2015. Bety carried almost 2000 excited passengers, with hundreds of people welcoming them into the local town stations along the way. Bety crossed over the Darr River Rail Bridge; a milestone that drove the completion of the repairs to the bridge that VEC was undergoing.

VEC’s experience in Design and Construct bridge projects meant design challenges were overcome, whilst managing stakeholder requirements.

Bridges & Structures Piling & Foundations Precast Concrete

This project involved the replacement of three timber rail bridges on Queensland Rail’s North Coast Line. With crocodile infested waters near Sheep Station Creek and a simultaneous lift using nine cranes at Killymoon Creek, the projects were unique in their own rights.

The Nogoa River Bridge is on the Central Line of the Queensland Rail network, close to the town of Emerald. The bridge opened in 1914 making it over 100 years old. It was constructed to replace the original low timber bridge. The bridge straddles the Nogoa River, which is the water source for the Emerald township.

The replacement of 10 Collapsed Culverts is another example of how the VEC team are able to complete construction works within the limited closure time of just 48 hours.

After the devastating effects of Cyclone Marcia in February 2015, the HQ Plantations sites hidden within the Byfield State Forest and National Park had received significant damage to its infrastructure, including three timber bridges.

The Theresa Creek Rail Bridge was replaced within just 4 days.

This project from Queensland Rail entails a total of 49 rail bridge structures that will be repaired and replaced within 9 months. The total length of this project is stretched across 700 kilometres. The design chosen by VEC allowed a crew of just 7 workers using 2 excavators to remove the old timber rail bridge and replace it with the new bridge or culvert in just 48 hours.

Bridges & Structures Piling & Foundations Precast Concrete Rail Infrastructure

This project involved the design and construction of four culverts and two flood-way openings on the Queensland Rail network in the neighbouring town of Dalby, Queensland.

The purpose of this project was to repair the two bridges (North Coast Rail Line and the Barney Point Coal Facility) on Young Street in Gladstone (QLD) to increase their service levels to the community and increase the design life of the bridges.
