Since 1996, VEC has worked on all types of rail projects across Australia. Our core speciality is replacing structures under limited track closures.
Our team has vast experience in the design and construction of superstructures, t-beam and plank bridges as well as precast culverts for railway lines.
Our track reconditioning works include re-sleepering; re-railing and re-stressing. Our team includes qualified Track certifiers; Track Possession Officers and thermit/rail tech welders.
VEC also completes:
- Emergency works (e.g. bridge and slip repairs);
- Turnouts (replacement, maintenance, upgrade, yard re-design);
- Level crossings (upgrade/reconditioning); and
- Drainage (improvement, culvert installation).
Limited closure works
VEC has a wealth of experience in performing construction works under limited closure periods. This includes the full replacement of a 100 metre, 5 span steel and pre-cast concrete superstructure on existing substructure within a 84 hour shut down (completed within 77.5 hour; 6.5 hours ahead of schedule - Don River Rail Bridge). We also have vast experience in replacing smaller structures such as the timber bridge replacements with precast concrete culvert or bridges on the several Queensland Rail projects where the structures were replaced in 48 hour shutdown periods.
