The mill produces about 280,000tpa of both newsprint and LWC related grades and all production from this facility is dispatched via the number 3 Warehouse and the integrated railhead.
The facility operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week and approximately 360 days per year. The warehouse and railhead were built in 1995 and the pavement and sidings have deteriorated with time and use, particularly in one area close to a natural waterway. The aim of this project was to conduct repairs to the rail sidings to return them to duty in this affected area.
The mill underwent a five day total mill shut-down in the first full week of April, in which time-frame VEC were required to complete the works. By using pre-cast concrete panels and other techniques to expedite the repair, VEC were able to minimise the outage of the railhead.
